Weathered Soles: A Traveler’s Series

Hello friends, folks, followers, frolickers and fashionistas

(I tried)

I’d like to present a little something I’ve been thinking about doing for a while. I’ve loved to travel all my life, experience new things and meet new people. It gives me a GIDdy (geddit) sense of wonder and awe to get off a plane in a foreign land.

Each journey involves taking that first drive or train ride through a city, reading signs in different languages, greeting people in their native tongue and trying food on streets that you don’t know like the back of your hand.

I’ve been lucky enough to traverse the globe throughout my life, but there’s so much more that I want to see. I have yet to trek through the sun-baked South of France, find the time to go on a much-coveted tour of Italy, witness the Northern Lights in Iceland and the Southern Lights in New Zealand. Believe it or not, I have yet to travel around China of all countries, despite residing across the border in little ol’ Hong Kong. And, shamefully, I have yet to travel around India, of all countries. I’ve only ever been to one city (Mumbai/Bombay) about 15 times, and that’s shameful. There’s no other word for it. But that’s for another time.

I currently freelance for an online/print newspaper called Young Post. They’re based in Hong Kong under the South China Morning Post (SCMP) Group. I discussed the joys of traveling whilst at university, but didn’t get the chance to say everything I wanted to in that particular piece.

So, in order to do that, I’ve started this series. My writing will navigate us through Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. I don’t claim to know everything there is to know, nor do I claim to have had an authentic experience in the countries I’ve visited. However, I hope to reflect on a few experiences I’ve had, and possibly drum up enough excitement to go back to these places in the future.

As you may have noticed, the travel bee in me is still buzzing. So once this series is done, I’ll be moving on to a series which covers where I’d like to go next.

Despite this travel series, I’ll still be posting a bunch of other random articles, that take shape from ideas and thoughts that run through my head. I essentially started this blog to make sense of everything, and voice opinions on incidences, thoughts and feelings in my life, as well as current affairs. So don’t you worry, we can still get up close and personal-ish.

Please do check out my Young Post article if you’re interested.

TTFN,

Gid 🙂
